Hidden camera finder
Privacy Policy · Effective 26 October 2026The short version. TraceLens works entirely on your iPhone. There is no account, no server, no analytics and no advertising. What the camera, the network scan, the Bluetooth scan and the sensors see is analysed in memory on the device and is never uploaded. The records you keep stay in the app until you delete them.
Nothing. TraceLens does not collect, transmit or store personal data on any server. The app has no sign-in, no user identifier, no crash reporting and no usage analytics. The only network traffic the app creates is Apple's App Store purchase handling (StoreKit) and the local network scan you start yourself, described below.
When you run a check, TraceLens keeps a record on your iPhone so you can read the report later and compare visits. A record can contain:
Records are written to the app's private container with iOS complete file protection, which means they are encrypted while the iPhone is locked. They are excluded from iCloud backup. Photos are never written to your Photos library.
The rear camera shows a live preview and is analysed on the device for camera shapes, small bright points (lens reflections under the torch) and, with the front camera in a dark room, infrared points. Frames are held in memory only; a still is saved only when you keep an observation or take an object photo. Nothing is uploaded.
When you start the Devices check, the app lists devices and services reachable on the Wi-Fi you are connected to. It browses standard Bonjour service types and makes bounded connection attempts to addresses on your subnet on a fixed list of ports, reading a service banner where one is offered. It never sends credentials, never follows redirects and never uses multicast. iOS asks for your permission the first time, and the scan is cancellable at any moment. Network names (SSID), router addresses and hardware (MAC) addresses are not stored.
During the Devices check the app also lists nearby Bluetooth devices by the name and signal they advertise, and names known action-camera and tracker signatures. Nothing is stored unless you keep an observation.
The gyroscope paces the guided sweep ("slow down", "hold still"). The magnetometer provides the Magnetic check. Readings are shown live and are saved only when you record one.
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, short spoken instructions and answers in the Learn tab are phrased by Apple's on-device model. Nothing is sent to a server. Instructions are read aloud with the system speech synthesiser; the microphone is never used.
TraceLens does not request or use your location.
TraceLens Pro is sold through Apple's App Store as auto-renewable subscriptions and a one-time lifetime purchase. Apple handles payment, billing details and receipts under Apple's privacy policy. The app verifies your purchase on the device and keeps only a yes/no record of your Pro status. We never see your payment details, your Apple Account or your name. Subscriptions renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period and are managed in your App Store account settings.
TraceLens is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Because nothing is collected, there is nothing to delete on our side.
Every record can be deleted from Records, and Settings → Delete all inspection data removes everything the app has kept. Deleting the app removes its container. If you export a report as PDF or text, the file is handed to the iOS share sheet and you decide where it goes; the temporary copy is removed when the app next launches.
Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and similar laws you have rights of access, correction, deletion and portability. Because TraceLens holds no personal data outside your own iPhone, you exercise all of them directly in the app: everything it knows is on screen, and deletion is one tap.
TraceLens is an inspection aid. No app can guarantee that a room is free of hidden cameras, and TraceLens never says so. It reports what was checked, what was observed and what remains uncertain.
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
