In short: MyChild is a parenting companion app that helps you track your child’s growth, health, and development. Your child’s data is stored locally on your device by default. If you choose to sign in, your data is securely synced to the cloud using Firebase so you can access it across devices. We never sell, share, or monetize your family’s personal or health information.
1. Information We Collect
MyChild collects and stores the following types of information, all of which you provide directly through the app:
- Child Profile Data — Your child’s name, date of birth, gender, blood type, and profile photo
- Growth Records — Height, weight, and head circumference measurements over time
- Health Records — Doctor visits, symptoms, diagnoses, medications, allergies, and medical notes
- Vaccination Records — Vaccine names, dates administered, and upcoming schedule tracking
- Feeding Logs — Breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and solid food entries with times and details
- Sleep Logs — Sleep and wake times, duration, and quality notes
- Milestone Records — Developmental milestones achieved, dates, notes, and photos
- Emergency Information — Emergency contacts, pediatrician details, insurance information, and medical alerts
This data is stored locally on your device using an encrypted local database. If you sign in with your account, this data is also securely synced to Firebase Cloud so you can access it across multiple devices.
2. Account and Authentication
MyChild can be used in Guest Mode without creating an account. All features are fully available offline with local-only storage.
If you choose to sign in using Firebase Authentication, we collect:
- Email address — Used solely for authentication and account recovery
- Authentication tokens — Managed securely by Firebase Auth; we never see or store your password
Signing in enables cloud sync so your data is backed up and accessible across your devices. You can sign out at any time, and your local data remains on your device.
3. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used exclusively to provide app functionality. Specifically:
- To display your data back to you — Growth charts, health timelines, vaccination schedules, and feeding/sleep summaries
- To sync across devices — Only if you opt in by signing into your account
- To improve app stability — Anonymous crash reports help us fix bugs (see Section 5)
- To understand app usage patterns — Anonymous analytics help us improve the user experience (see Section 5)
We do not use your child’s health data, growth records, or any personal information for advertising, profiling, data mining, or any purpose other than providing the app’s core functionality to you.
4. Data Storage and Security
We take the security of your family’s data seriously. Your information is protected through multiple layers:
- Local Storage — All data is stored in a Room database on your device, accessible only to the MyChild app
- Cloud Storage (optional) — If you sign in, data is synced to Google Firebase using TLS encryption in transit and AES-256 encryption at rest
- Firebase Security Rules — Cloud data is protected by strict security rules ensuring only you can access your own family’s data
- Photo Storage — Photos are stored locally on-device. If cloud sync is enabled, photos are uploaded to Firebase Storage with authenticated access controls
We do not have a custom backend or servers. All cloud services are provided by Google Firebase, which is certified under ISO 27001, SOC 1/2/3, and other industry security standards.
5. Third-Party Services
MyChild uses the following third-party services, each operating under its own privacy policy:
- Firebase Authentication — Manages user sign-in securely. Firebase Privacy Policy
- Firebase Cloud Firestore — Stores your synced data in Google’s secure cloud infrastructure. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
- Firebase Storage — Stores photos securely in the cloud when sync is enabled.
- Firebase Crashlytics — Collects anonymous crash reports including device model, OS version, and stack traces. No personal or child health data is ever included in crash reports.
- Firebase Analytics — Collects anonymous usage statistics such as screen views and session duration. No personal or health data is included.
- Google AdMob — Displays advertisements to free-tier users. AdMob may collect device identifiers and ad interaction data. Your child’s health data is never used for ad targeting. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device’s privacy settings. Google Privacy Policy
- Google Play Billing — Processes premium subscription purchases securely. All payment information is handled entirely by Google Play and is never accessible to us.
6. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
MyChild is a tool designed for parents and caregivers to track their children’s development. The app is intended to be operated by adults, not by children themselves.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13
- All child-related data entered in the app is provided by the parent or legal guardian
- The parent or guardian maintains full control over all data and can view, modify, or delete it at any time
- We do not use children’s data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond providing the app’s tracking features
If you believe that a child has independently provided personal information through this app without parental consent, please contact us immediately so we can take appropriate action.
7. GDPR Compliance
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:
- Right of Access — You can view all your data directly within the app at any time
- Right to Rectification — You can edit or correct any data entry within the app
- Right to Erasure — You can delete individual records or all data from within the app and your cloud account
- Right to Data Portability — Data export functionality allows you to obtain your data in a portable format
- Right to Restrict Processing — You can use the app in Guest Mode without cloud sync to keep all data exclusively on your device
- Right to Withdraw Consent — You can sign out of cloud sync at any time; you can opt out of personalized ads via your device settings
Our legal basis for processing your data is your explicit consent (by entering data into the app) and the performance of the service you have requested (tracking your child’s development).
8. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, lease, or trade your personal information or your child’s data to any third party. Period.
Your data may only be shared in these limited circumstances:
- With your consent — If you choose to export or share data from within the app
- With service providers — Firebase processes your data on our behalf under strict data processing agreements. They do not use your data for their own purposes
- Legal requirements — If required by law, court order, or governmental regulation, we may disclose information to the extent legally necessary
9. Data Retention and Deletion
You are in full control of your data at all times:
- Local data — Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all locally stored data from your device
- Cloud data — You can delete your cloud-synced data by signing into your account and using the delete option, or by contacting us
- Account deletion — You can request complete deletion of your account and all associated cloud data by contacting us at the email below
We retain cloud data only for as long as your account is active. Anonymous crash reports and analytics data are automatically purged by Firebase after 90 days.
10. Advertising
MyChild displays advertisements through Google AdMob to support free access to the app. Important details about our advertising practices:
- Ads are shown only to free-tier users. Premium subscribers enjoy a completely ad-free experience
- Your child’s health, growth, feeding, sleep, or any other tracked data is never used for ad targeting
- Ad personalization is handled by Google based on your device-level ad settings, not on any data from MyChild
- You can opt out of personalized ads in your device’s Settings → Privacy → Ads
11. Permissions
MyChild requests the following device permissions, each for a specific purpose:
- Camera — To take photos for child profiles and milestone records. Used only when you explicitly choose to capture a photo
- Photo Library / Media — To select existing photos from your device for profiles and milestones. Used only when you explicitly choose to pick a photo
These permissions are requested only when needed and can be revoked at any time through your device’s system settings.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, our practices, or applicable regulations. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of MyChild after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
